The studio dogs may resent me posting an image other than one of them, but I want to fill the calendar with daily paintings as they are completed or, as in the case of Thor pup yesterday, an image showing process.
SUNNY YELLOW SUNFLOWER
© Vernita Bridges Hoyt, artist
oil paint on cradled wood panel
6x6 inches
This painting was commissioned by a young wife whose husband is military and about to be deployed overseas. She requested a textured oil painting of a yellow sunflower no larger than 6x6 inches. I have painted this sunflower completely with a palette knife to achieve the texture. There was no preliminary drawing for this one. I began by painting tonal shapes on the support which, in this case, is a cradled wood panel with natural birch sides. Now my muse is saying, "Paint more sunflowers."
